With more than 20-years experience, Perry serves as a trusted advisor to Fortune 500 companies, law firms, labor unions, universities, leading non-profits and small businesses.
Perry helps clients build, enhance and protect their reputation and brand. He offers extensive experience in media relations, media training, strategic planning, message development, and crisis, litigation and marketing communications. His background is firmly rooted in lessons learned during a career that began in journalism, was followed by years with a state attorney general and a US Congressman, and continued with some of the leading communications firms in New England and Washington, D.C.
Prior to founding The Perry Group in 2009, Perry was senior vice president and managing director of the New England office for Prism Public Affairs, a Washington, D.C.-based public affairs firm. Earlier, Perry served as vice president-public relations for The RDW Group, an independently owned public relations and advertising agency in New England.
Among his career highlights, Perry has provided message development, strategic direction, national and regional media relations and issue management for several Fortune 500 companies involved in nationwide product liability and public nuisance litigation; and for a multi-national energy company involved in a sensitive environmental remediation effort in Massachusetts. He also served as national spokesman and corporate public relations and marketing strategist for a $2-billion privately owned development and housing management company.
Before joining the private sector, Perry served as communications director to U.S. Representative Robert Weygand, (D-R.I.) and as Chief Spokesman for Attorney General Jeffrey B. Pine, (R-R.I.). While serving in the AG’s office, Perry was the principal spokesperson for all criminal prosecutions and civil litigation pursued by the State of Rhode Island, including the multi-state litigation against the tobacco companies, and the felony racketeering trial of a former governor.
Perry is the recipient of the Publicity Club of New England’s Bell Ringer Award for Public Affairs, and was named by the Providence Business News to its inaugural list of “40 Under 40” Influential Professionals in 2005. Perry began his career as a broadcast journalist in Connecticut, and held on-air positions for more than 10 years in Boston and Providence, RI.
He is frequently asked to speak to major law firms, trade associations and corporations on the topics of reputation management and crisis communications. He has recently spoken to the National Association of Bar Executives, Association of Corporate Counsel, Defense Research Institute and FM Global Speakers Alliance.
Perry graduated from the University of Rhode Island, with a B.A. in Journalism and Political Science. He lives and works in Rhode Island.
