Laura Meade Kirk is an award-winning writer and journalist who provides clients with strategic counsel, media relations support and writing services. She brings a well-founded editorial perspective based on more than 30 years of experience as a reporter, writer, editor and photographer for daily newspapers, and both broadcast and on-line media outlets throughout New England.
As a former journalist, Kirk knows what editors and reporters are looking for when it comes to news and feature stories. Because she knows how a story will be perceived and played, she offers expert advice to clients on how to pitch a story to pique an editor’s interest, and provide exactly what reporters and photographers need to make it happen.
Kirk also has an extensive background in media relations, and has served as an on-the-record spokesperson for various organizations. A skilled writer, Kirk often is called upon in her Massachusetts-based practice to write and edit newsletters, press releases, op-eds, and speeches. She also maintains a specialized skill in writing for the Internet.
Kirk’s professional experience includes nearly 24 years as a reporter, writer, editor, photographer and videographer for the Providence Journal in Providence, RI. Earlier in her career, she worked for the Rochester (NY) Democrat & Chronicle as well as for newspapers in Gloucester, MA, Portsmouth, NH, Dover, NH and Exeter, NH. She has been recognized by the New England Society of Newspaper Editors as well as United Press International for her reporting.
For more than twenty years, she has served as a journalism professor at the University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College. She has taught students of all ages and stages in the art of writing and editing news stories, with a special emphasis on public relations.
Kirk is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, and holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communications. She lives and works in Massachusetts.
